It’s All About the Socks

This high waist Anne Klein skirt sits comfortably above my waist without digging into my flesh. It’s also the perfect way to hide my Post Thanksgiving day bloat. I really like the details of the shirt and the different patterns combined. I’m also rocking the socks with heels. I started liking the style after seeing it on mannequins in the windows at Club Monaco. I was afraid of channeling Ugly Betty (Loved that show!) but proceeded with caution. I think that ankle socks and heels would like nice with slim fitting cropped pants, strappy sandals or even peep toes too. If you’re trying the style I suggest wearing thin knit socks. Thick socks won’t be as comfortable or look as nice.

Mad Plaider

I’ve been in a frenzy looking for plaid shirts.  When I come across one in the stores I usually don’t like the colors or find some reason to not buy it.  In the past I’ve never really had an affinity for the pattern. Nowadays I ‘ve been crazed to find the perfect plaid shirt. When I saw this shirt in the store I knew I had to have it immediately. I paired it with these capri style trousers and leopard booties. I liked the juxtaposition of the two patterns. I also liked experimenting with the different lengths of clothing. I was afraid that I’d look like my clothes were too small or like I was wearing high waters…but you have to takes risks sometimes.

Collegiate Cool

Today I’m feeling under the weather. It’s the season for runny noses and itchy throats :) . I still managed to pull off a decent outfit. At this time of year folks are heading back to school and back to business from their leisurely summer activities. I think the change in season inspires people to tap into their collegiate side. The great thing about this look is that it’s appropriate for all ages. Blazers, knit sweaters, pleated skirts, loafers, and headbands, all scream collegiate style to me. If your sweaters from last year need a pick me up try replacing the buttons or make patches for your sleeves. I bought denim fabric and made patches for the sleeves and pockets. You can’t really see them in these photos but they really helped revive this old sweater.

Corduroy Forever Relevant

Corduroy is one of my favorite fabrics to wear this time of wear. It’s cozy and keeps you warm. It’s a timeless fabric even your mom can attest to all the nifty corduroy duds she sported when she was younger. If you avoid wearing corduory in fear of looking like a throwback try to wear corduroy pieces in bright colors or in updated styles. Also try pairing corduroys with modern pieces like a blazer or ankle boots.

DIY Alert:

Since its Fall I’ve been thinking about cute jackets, scarves, and hats that I will soon wear. I like showing my playful side by wearing colorful outerwear accessories. I made these hand warmers after seeing them at iheartarmwarmers.myshopify.com. They were really easy to make. Check out my Various Finds page to learn how to make your own.
