Wardrobe Staple

Generally, I find it a little challenging to get dressed for work. I want to be able to show my personality but still keep my attire work friendly. I’m also in my late 20s and want to look youthful but not like I’m trying to be too young. On the other hand, I also want to look sophisticated but not older than my age. Today I found it especially hard to get dressed since I had to wake up earlier than usual. My go to piece when I don’t have any inspiration  is a skirt. They are easy to wear and I was always feel feminine and confident when I wear one. A little strange, huh?  In the summer I like to feel the rustling of the fabric and the warmth from the sun on my legs. In the winter I like wearing tights and dressing up my legs. That’s actually the best way to fake perfect legs. You can’t see any bruises, marks or any other unsightly things.

So, tell me what is your go to piece when getting dressed when you’re short on time or don’t have the energy to get dressed.

Unpredictable

Lately the weather has been truly unpredictable. We lucked up and received beautiful weather today…almost reminiscent of spring.  I fought the urge to dress in complete warm weather gear and instead mixed and matched warm weather clothing with more seasonal pieces. I wore this exuberant colored cap sleeve dress with a taupe shirt/ jacket thingumajig, tights and booties.

Flower Power

I  hate that we are on the brink of cool weather and shorter days. It’s time to put away all the frilly pretty dresses…Or is it? if you’re like me and you are not ready to put away your Summer attire you can easily modify your outfits to be ready for Fall.  I wore this dress in the summer with sandals and bare legs. Now I’m wearing tights, shoes, and a sweater (not seen in these photos). I actually think the dress looks better worn this way. I like unexpectedly mixing and matching styles. You never know what type of look you can create. This is also a way to be conservative when you’re making purchases to update your Fall wardrobe.

This is another look that you can try to recreate.

Blast from the Past

I scored another thrifty find! In this dress I feel like a cross between a 1920s flapper and like I stepped out of (one of my favorite 80s films) Pretty in Pink. Either way this dress made me feel so feminine and pretty. I was loving the forgiving design of the dress. It doesn’t cling to my body but still flatters my shape. Heels were a must because the dress was so long that I needed extra length. These Sam and Libby shoes were very comfortable but run a little big. I paired the dress with accessories that I picked up at a Swap over the summer. I’ve only been to one Swap event but I would definitely attend more. Here’s how it goes. You bring clothes to donate for the Swap and then you have an opportunity to pick up items that you want that were also brought by other swappers. You can even find new items at these events too. This is a great way to update your wardrobe without it being a burden to your wallet. On Thursday, September 29th, the 2nd Sip and Swap will be held at the Microsoft Nerd Center in Cambridge. Neutral Ground

I love neutral colors. I think these colors are complimentary to my skin tone. Neutral tones are classic and will forever be in style. Another plus to wearing neutral and light colors is that it lifts my spirits. There’s something about the light colors that make me feel light and free. Pairing neutral colors with bright colors is a nice contrast too. This can energize an outfit. I usually like neutral colored bottoms (pants and skirts) and add color on top (shirts and sweaters). I don’t like to wear too many neutrals in one outfit to avoid looking washed out or dull.

Try assembling a neutral colored outfit using pieces from your wardrobe. You can add color to your outfit with accessories and/or shoes. Pair khaki or light neutral colored shorts and a bright blue, red, or even a shimmery top. You can even go bold with your makeup by using a punchy lip color or bright shadow. Be cautious to not go overboard with the bright makeup. Choose one feature to go bold with your look.

Mellow Yellow

Usually I’m not drawn to the color yellow but when I saw this vintage dress over the weekend I had to buy it. There was something  warm and inviting about the spectacular hue. I also flipped for the 1960s feel of the dress. Initially, I felt a little awkward almost like I was playing dress up in this dress. Slowly everything came together after I added accessories and shoes to make the look more of my own. I received quite a few compliments on the dress too which made me even happier that I wore it.
