Mad Plaider

I’ve been in a frenzy looking for plaid shirts.  When I come across one in the stores I usually don’t like the colors or find some reason to not buy it.  In the past I’ve never really had an affinity for the pattern. Nowadays I ‘ve been crazed to find the perfect plaid shirt. When I saw this shirt in the store I knew I had to have it immediately. I paired it with these capri style trousers and leopard booties. I liked the juxtaposition of the two patterns. I also liked experimenting with the different lengths of clothing. I was afraid that I’d look like my clothes were too small or like I was wearing high waters…but you have to takes risks sometimes.

A Little Bling

One of my favorite trends that I’ve seen as of late are the daytime sequined looks. If you don’t mind attracting a little more attention than usual then I would highly suggest including sequins in your wardrobe.

Wear sequins embellished sweaters, hats, bags, or jewelry.  Be sure to only wear one sequined item at a time. Choose sequins in different colors. You don’t have to wear the typical black sequined garb. Also remember to pair sequins with more casual attire so that your look isn’t over the top.

Ode to Black and Brown

They say you should never be together and that you are a faux pas. However, to me you are a flawless fit. You create the most tasteful ensembles. How can anyone resist the sultry shades chocolate, caramel and mocha draped in black so richly colored? I praise you for your valor; sticking together through the clamor. As I enjoy the forbidden fruits in life, too. Black and brown long live together

What about you?

When in Doubt

I was feeling uninspired today and had no clue what to wear. In times like these I reach for my skinny jeans. Today was no different. Skinnies can look really polished with a blazer and sleek footwear. I think the darker the denim the more polished the look. They also create a great slimming illusion too. :)

Sweater Hat DIY

Using leftovers from a sweater that I deconstructed, I was able to make these cute hats. Create one for yourself  and that special little one in your life. Mine is for my 6-year-old cousin who is a Fashionista in the making.

What you need: an old sweater, scissors, needle and thread, glue gun, pom poms, zippers or whatever you prefer to use for decoration.

I used an already cut up sweater but you can take an old sweater and remove the sleeves.

Turn the sleeve inside out and stitch the side with the smaller opening closed. This will become the top of the hat.

Turn sleeve right-side out and fold the other end of the sleeve. Fold this end a couple of times to get that desired fit. You can stitch the fold or use a glue gun to maintain the fold.

Here comes the fun part. I used zippers and created this flower. I coiled one to create the center and used another for the petals. I folded the zipper in loops and structured them to create a circle. (Glue each loop as you go to keep the shape.) I then took a piece of felt and glued the pieces to it to create the flower.  I then glued the flower to the hat. You can use sequins, fur pieces, ribbon whatever suits your taste to create your very own winter knit hat.

Enjoy!

A Thing for Denim

I’ve always been a little crazed over denim. I can backtrack through my fashion timeline and identify different trends in denim that I obsessed over. When I was a child I much-loved my paint splashed and cross color dungarees, as a teen I practically lived in my oversized skater denims, and a couple of years later I flipped for the distressed, torn, and worn look. Now I am fanatical over skinnies and trouser jeans. Yesterday I opted for this cute cropped denim jacket. It really pulled my look together. Without it I would’ve looked too casual.

Has anyone else noticed the outrageous prices of jeans? www.denimjeans.com reported that retailers have increased prices to offset the increased cost of cotton. While prices may be hard on our wallets this weekend the Gap has a 40% off Labor Day Sale. This includes denim. www.gap.com
