Neutral Ground

I love neutral colors. I think these colors are complimentary to my skin tone. Neutral tones are classic and will forever be in style. Another plus to wearing neutral and light colors is that it lifts my spirits. There’s something about the light colors that make me feel light and free. Pairing neutral colors with bright colors is a nice contrast too. This can energize an outfit. I usually like neutral colored bottoms (pants and skirts) and add color on top (shirts and sweaters). I don’t like to wear too many neutrals in one outfit to avoid looking washed out or dull.

Try assembling a neutral colored outfit using pieces from your wardrobe. You can add color to your outfit with accessories and/or shoes. Pair khaki or light neutral colored shorts and a bright blue, red, or even a shimmery top. You can even go bold with your makeup by using a punchy lip color or bright shadow. Be cautious to not go overboard with the bright makeup. Choose one feature to go bold with your look.

The New Mini Skirts – Maxi Skirts!

Maxi skirts will be sticking around through the Fall. You can set aside your minis for the upcoming season. The maxi goes well with a buttoned down shirt either tucked into the skirt, tied up at the waist, or with a fitted knit sweater. You can even wear them now with a t-shirt or a tank. Since I am not that tall I like to wear these skirts with heels for height and a chic look. After ransacking racks at my usual thrift shop spots I found a few skirts that I couldn’t pass up. All skirts were purchased for under $20. I will definitely be wearing these skirts in upcoming blogs.

One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that the skirt sits comfortably at your waist. If your skirt sits above your waist you can risk looking like you are bulging through your skirt and feel confined in it. Make sure that you buy maxi skirts that fit comfortably. I’m speaking from near passing out experiences due to poor circulation and inability to breathe.

I urge you all to try this look.

The Calm After the Storm

It’s back to work after an uneventful weekend. I was  stuck in the house for the last couple of days and was happy to briefly return to the streets even if it was to only be confined for another 8 hours. It’s a beautiful morning. The air is fresh, crisp, and almost reminiscent of a Fall day. I opted for this combination to stay warm and comfy while waiting for public transportation.  I totally believe that accessories can make an outfit. I felt that without the jewelry that my outfit was dated and ordinary. These shoes are easy to wear all day long. The wedge makes them comfortable and adds vibrancy to my get-up.

I really like the high waist pants trend (which I’m wearing but may be difficult to see). I think it’s invigorating. I’m glad that there is a trend inspired to cover our bums and now I do not have to repeatedly tug at my pants to keep them from exposing my unmentionables. The high waist accentuates the waist and embraces one’s hourglass figure. I like to infuse menswear trends with frilly pieces. I think menswear trends automatically make an outfit chic.
